08 Jan U17 Selection To Start On Saturday At GEMS Cambridge School
The U17 national team selection will kick off in earnest this coming Saturday June 25, 2016 at the GEMS Cambridge International School in Karen.
The undertaking is in preparation for the U17 AFCON qualifiers against Cameroon in Yaoundé on August 5, 2016.
“We are expecting approximately 60 players from across the country to report to camp beginning this Friday and latest Saturday morning,” said FKF CEO Robert Muthomi.
“The players will then undergo a two day selection process that will see the number trimmed to a provisional squad of 30, who will then be taken for MRI on Wednesday 29, 2016 to ascertain their ages as is required by both CAF and FIFA,” added the CEO.
All players who have been shortlisted for the exercise have been requested to bring with them their original birth certificate, school living certificate and K.C.P.E living certificate as a first measure of curbing age cheating.
“Yes it is true we have requested all the players to bring with them vital documents that will aid in ensuring that they are in the right age group for the competition, this even as we plan to take the final provisional squad of 30 for the MRI once the coaches are done with the selection exercise,” explained Muthomi.
The team will camp at the Kasarani Stadium for the two day exercise but will train at the GEMS International school as the stadia is booked for the GOTV Shield tournament that is set to begin over the weekend.
